Make the facts connected
2 × 6 means 2 groups of 6, totaling 12. Adding one more group of 6 gives 3 × 6 = 18.
The factors can swap: 2 × 8 = 8 × 2 = 16. Use whichever order is easier to picture.
Check with division
18 ÷ 2 = 9. The product tells you the total; division finds the number or size of equal groups.
