Make the facts connected
12 × 6 means 12 groups of 6, totaling 72. Adding one more group of 6 gives 13 × 6 = 78.
The factors can swap: 12 × 8 = 8 × 12 = 96. Use whichever order is easier to picture.
Check with division
108 ÷ 12 = 9. The product tells you the total; division finds the number or size of equal groups.
